It’s your very first podcast and you are struggling to choose a topic. Do you stick with what you know, or find topic that is currently trending?
In our third snippet, we revisit this important decision, just because it can be the most challenging. In this podcast it’s one of the questions I asked Joe Casabona, host of How I Built It.
Have a Deep Interest.
One of the things people ask me is, how do I choose my topic? Definitely pick something you’re interested in. Because podcasting is a grind. You might not get downloads that first day. It might be more work than you expected it to be. But if you’re interested in the topic, that is going to help.
There are a lot of things I’m interested in, right? I am a WordPress developer. I’m a podcaster. I’m a teacher. I also love Disney. I frequently visit Disney World and I’m very interested in Walt Disney, the man. And I smoke cigars which is another thing I talk about. I am more well known in three out of those five.
If I wanted to start from scratch with a Disney or cigars podcast, I’d probably make better headway with the cigars podcast. But I’m gonna take the path that’s the least resistance, at least for my first podcast. Which is why I think How I built iIt has gotten fairly popular over the last three years. And I’m approaching a million downloads.
That’s because I was interviewing developers in the WordPress space. A space where I was asking them questions I was interested in because I had a little bit of knowledge around it and people really liked that.
